Teavana Some Tea?

After a Blue C anomaly (no Dede) and some Red Mango with cereal (the strawberries looked pureed) , J, R and B headed to the first floor of South Center to check out the new Teavana store. B received a gift card to Teavana for Christmas, and wanted to check out the tea possibilities. As soon as we stepped into Teavana, the tea vultures were instantly upon us with syrupy samples of teas like: Moonlight Mango Magic and Coco-Berry Cantaloupe Blend---huh? J and B tried to avoid direct eye contact and focused on the tasteful and tacky tea accoutrements (some tasteful, many tacky)

To B's surprise, R seems to be really enjoying the tea experience, to the point of befriending the peppy personnel who looked as if they had indulged in too much caffeine and sugar. And I mean way too much caffeine and sugar. What did they put in R's “sample”?? R made a tea purchase (a blend of two teas no less—fancy pants) and we attempted to leave the store only to be foiled by the sample machine. Makes me wonder if the Teavana owners once worked at Costco.

Yes, I experienced something at that store, but I don't think it was Teavana.

I was just looking over the catalog for Teavana and discovered that I was totally upsold! I asked for the small sampling, and ended up with the large, 1/2 lb tin... sigh. I hate being duped.

They confuse you with their good smells, flavorful concoctions, and when you feel lulled into Teavana - they take all of your money!

But, whatev - this tea concoction (Matevana & Roobios Chai) is super great, and has given me better-than-Red-Bull wings.

We've all been either too busy or too lazy to write about our lunchtime adventures, but know this - we have had lunches - some were fabulous, others were sadly disappointing (Mali Thai) and at least one was down-right scandalous (Joey's). ACME Bites

On M's suggestion, B and I went to ACME Bowl for lunch today. I had the veggie burger, and B had the Chipotle burger, both were above average for bowling alley fare, and the service was good, but slow. I suspected that our waiter was also the cook, since he would disappear for periods of time into the kitchen, and come out later with trays of food. While the restaurant was slow (there were only two other tables besides us), the alley was busy with lots of teenagers, single ladies, and divorced fathers with their kids. There was one family whose mother and father were both such bad bowlers that their three sons, ages 8 - 5 were wiping the alleys with them. One final score was Mom: 60, little Johnny: 75. All I kept thinking was - how embarrassing to be so bad at a sport that even a child is better than you. I mean, even though I myself bowl a 65, at least I don't have some toddler hanging around trying to showing me up! Anyway - it was a fun adventure, and outside the norm. B a

M. Dares Casino Food

Today, we have a special report from faithful (and intrepid) reader, M. on the Riverside Casino: Today I rolled the dice and had lunch at the Riverside Casino. Thai Curry Chicken Fried Rice was highly recommended to me by someone....that I can only assume doesn't eat out much. I mean the guy raved about this dinner and I just don't get the hub-bub. But they do have pad t hai and I'm a sucker for pad t hai so I might actually venture back one day. Their parking lot is packed lunch & dinner hours and I mean PACKED! I don't feel I have solved the mystery is it food or the card games? On a positive note, the service was fast. You will not get a seat at the Baccarat table - that area is non-stop action from open to close, but the restaurant portion has plenty of open tables if you go before 1pm. The place is open 24/7 and serves breakfast, lunch or dinner anytime. No website. The place does not smell like smoke - it had a recent remodel and is decent. And I have easil
